I've been hearing about Alamo for years now and I finally made my way here this holiday season! On our first visit, we got a sampling of beef, pork, and chicken handmade tamales. The beef was really flavorful and definitely the best. It was the perfect punch of flavor! The pork is a solid second and the chicken was nice and moist (I hate dry chicken so usually I stay away from chicken tamales to be safe), but there wasn't as much sauce none chicken. The masa (for all) was really nice and soft, not too dry. The prices were really good too - $12.99/dozen for homemade, $2 extra for beef but definitely worth it. The machine made is really cheap - $5 for cold or $7.75 for hot and ready to eat. I'm not sure if the price discrepancy means they're smaller? We went back one more time so I could stock up before leaving town, but they were out of the machine made that day. I'm definitely planning on getting some on my next visit to compare!

This review has been years in the making because I have literally been coming here since Christmas 2010 to pick up tamales for the Holiday. I used to have to make sure I had cash but, they have gotten "fancy" and now take Visa/MasterCard. Like clockwork, I get up at 415am and I am pulling up no later than 530am. Well, except for this year. I woke up a bit late and I went to pick up my mom. We arrived at about 610am and I was fully expecting to be in line for hours. My tardiness only delayed my departure by about 10 minutes or so. If you refer to my previous pictures, you'll see what waiting to 8am will do...tons of wait time and frozen ears and nose. When you are in line on a nippy December morning, please make sure you are READY to order. The handmade variety (which I normally order) come in packs of six, you can mix and match and they will charge you by the dozen. The chicken tamales are a bit flavorless and I Iean toward the pork or pepper/cheese kind.

Lovely restaurant! The staff was very friendly and welcoming when I walked in. They have lots of different options to choose from as it pertains to tacos. I came because I wanted to try out their tamales. I kept it simple by ordering the basic chicken tamale. It was good. The tamales run on the small side so I got 3. You can get 2 for 3 dollars. I would certainly come here again.

Best Tamales in Houston! I could not believe the crowd but now I understand the reason. Apparently oldest Tamale & Taco shop in town.

This location might be small but it doesn't stop them from making the best tamales in Houston! The original location is the one on Berry Rd, but this location is perfect if you're in Eado. They're open from 5am-5pm all week so definitely stop and check them out for their breakfast tacos. Or even better, their tamales! Order some of their chicken tamales "caseros" and you won't be disappointed. As this chain has grown in popularity, so have their prices. Their tacos are $1.85 each and a half dozen of tamales are $6.50. Don't get me wrong, I will still come and support this business because they offer consistently great food. Yes, there are other places in Houston with cheaper prices, especially on barbacoa, but what can I say, I'm set in my ways and I don't come here daily. Their tiny lot sucks. At best, maybe 5 cars can park in there until it's full. But since most people just go in and grab their order, spots open up quickly. It's a must stop if you're in the downtown area.

Great menudo and breakfast tacos. You get to build your own tacos by choosing the filling you want. We tried the nopales (cactus) and egg & jalapeño tacos. Both were tasty. I had a hankering for menudo so we bought a large container. It was full of flavor but it was made with almost all tripe. It would be nice if it had a few bits of pork or chicken. Even so, the menudo hit the spot on this early Sunday morning. We bought a dozen chicken tamales. We ate two and forced ourselves to stop. Otherwise, we would have eaten the entire dozen. This place is a hidden gem.

Yep, been there. Good tacos (especially the barbacoa, chicharron) Excellent hand made tamales which truly are better than the machine made.... even at approximately twice the cost.

Alamo Tamale & Taco is the perfect restaurant for people craving tamales. They have different options. The cheapest one is the machine made Tamales (~$6) and the most expensive one is the handmade (~$13). In both case scenarios you will get 12 tamales, which is enough to be full in two and, even if you take the handmade ones, it is very inexpensive. You can have beef tamales for extra $2. I always take chicken though. They are very well made, delicious and a little too oily on the outside (but I suppose this is how it should be). The location is a little weird (cross between 5 or 6 roads) and the parking lot is very small. I always take food to go because I don't like too much the restaurant itself. It looks a little sketchy and unsafe. The patio area is kind of rudimental with few tables of low quality. For what I do (take food home) it is a 4 star for me. I would not suggest to dine there.

I love tamales. Alamo makes awesome tamales. Therefore I love Alamo. If you're craving some tamales, go for the handmade tamales. I've never tried the machine-made so I can't really say whether or not it's good. But handmade is the diggity bomb! I usually get a couple dozen of chicken tamales and I eat them all within a week. Just throw them in the fridge and when you're craving some tamales, just put them on the skillet for a few minutes to heat them up, and voila! Hot tamales! This place is tiny. There's only one cashier and they take cash only. They do have an atm for those of you who keep forgetting to bring cash here. The tacos are pretty good also. And best of all, they're cheap. And BIG! One taco could fill me up pretty good here. A couple of tacos, and I'm full for a good few hours (hey, I have a big appetite!) The people that work here are meh. Some are nice. Some are whatever. The first time I ever came here, the dude that was helping was super cool. But I haven't seen him since. The last time I came in, the lady that was helping me either was having a bad day or she just didn't know how to smile. Very grumpy! Anyway, I don't come here as much as I would like because it is kind of far from where I live. But every chance i get when I come to this side of town, I usually make it a point to swing by. If you're looking for some good tacos and/or tamales. Try this place out. I think you won't regret it.
